Château Gazin 1988
Mrs Christiane Barrère (Ch.B.) and Mr. Michel Rolland (M.R.) - May 2000

Aspect : superb colour, intense, still very young.

Odour : the strong and intense nose has an aroma of meat, spices (Ch. B.) and truffles (M. R.). Swirling the wine in one’s glass brings out these merits; the nose acquires a meaty quality with hints of vegetables (Ch. B.) and complex nuances of red fruits, wood and truffles (M. R.).

Taste : a rough attack (Ch. B.), elegant according to M. R., precedes a rigid evolution (Ch. B.), but pleasant and leaning toward a slightly austere, dry finale (M. R.). Razor sharp tannins and a slightly aggressive balance for a Pomerol wine (Ch. B.).

Judgement : this wine is a fine example of the vintage due to its structure and its dryness. It can satisfy but also be surprising... personally, I enjoy its complexity (Ch. B.); a slightly rustic wine endowed with a strong character (to accompany game) that will age well (M.R.).
